Breast Implant & Reduction Scars

How Myofascial Release addresses it, and what to expect.

Problematic breast implant or reduction scars refer to the presence of undesirable or troublesome scarring that can occur after breast augmentation with implants or breast reduction surgery. Scarring is a natural part of the healing process after surgery, but in some cases, the scars may exhibit characteristics that cause concern, dissatisfaction, or even pain.

Why fascia is involved

Scar tissue around the breast can restrict the whole chest wall.

Breast augmentation and reduction surgeries create scars in the skin and in the fascia beneath it, and in the case of implants the body forms a capsule of scar tissue around the implant. When that scar tissue tightens, it can bind to the chest wall and ribs, restrict the shoulder and upper back, alter breathing, and cause pulling, hardness or pain that surgery alone does not resolve.

Myofascial Release restores glide to the scars, the tissue around the implant or reduction site, the chest wall and the shoulders. Gentle sustained pressure softens the dense fibers over time, and many women find the tightness, pulling and discomfort ease. Therapists coordinate with the surgeon's guidance on timing after surgery.
